"Passionate About the Passion" is an article by Keith A Fournier. Fournier gives his account and reactions after seeing Mel Gibson's controversial new movie "Passion of the Christ". He talks about the apprehension he had before viewing the movie, the affect it had on him and the others who saw the film, and the reasons why, in his opinion, this movie should not be missed. I hope to be able to give my readers the highlights of this fascinating story and also give my own reactions and thoughts on this movie.
The first part of Mr. Fournier article is about his mixed feeling after being invited to private, invitation only showing of "The Passion". "I really did not know what to expect. I was thrilled to have been invited to a private viewing of Mel Gibson's film "The Passion" but I had also read all the cautious articles and spin." says Mr. Fournier. He had grown up with the Jewish faith and has a life long, deeply held aversion to anything that might even indirectly encourage any form of anti-Semitic thought, language or actions. Growing up a Catholic and even attending Catholic High School I can personally relate to the feelings of apprehension. I had also read and heard all the positive and negative press "The Passion" had received and didn't know what to expect when I went and saw the film. .
The next section of "Passionate About the Passion" covers the affect the movie had on Mr. Fournier and the others who saw the film. "When the film concluded, this "invitation only" gathering of "movers and shakers" in Washington, D.C. were shaking indeed, but this time from sobbing, I am not sure there was a dry eye in the place. The crowd that had been glad-handing before the film was now eerily silent. No one could speak because words were woefully inadequate. We had experienced a kind of art that is a rarity in life, the kind that makes heaven touch earth." says Mr. Fournier. When I myself went to see "The Passion" I too was moved to tears at more then one point.
