Capital Punishment Doesn't sound too nice does it? It is the major punishment for wrongdoers. I am on the pros side on this debate. I will be talking about why capital punishment is good for our communities. First of all, our society has the right to protect itself. It's not like every person who gets into jail does not get out. If a person kills someone, goes to jail, and gets out, we don't want a murderer lurking around our houses. I think it is better to just get rid of these people. Now, its not like everybody in jail gets put on death row. If a person steals something, it does not mean they should go on death row. It is only the worst crimes. It is a lot of money to keep these prisoners locked up. It is about $50 a day times 30 years which comes out to be about $540,000. That's a lot of money just to keep murderers alive! Death Penalty can probably make criminals think about whether or not they should do more heinous crimes. It usually can discourage criminals from doing things they will regret later. Some families want justice for a loved one. They would want this murderer killed. Families also want to make sure that any murdering from this person ever happens again. Today, DNA testing can tell us whether or not we have the right criminal. Some times in the past innocent people have been killed. Now in recent polls, it says that most Americans (about 76%) believe that capital punishment is the best choice to make. Capital Punishment does not violate the fifth amendment. The fifth amendment prohibits "cruel and unusual punishment". I don't think that capital punishment is a cruel and unusual punishment because there really is not a "regular" way to kill someone. Each state has the right whether or not to have death penalty. Under the law, this right is not a federal matter, so each state has the burden of deciding whether to have capital punishment as an option.
