Along with millions of people across the vast earth, I play videogames. I play them for fun and enjoyment and also because of originality, stellar direction, and innovation created within the game. As a supporter of the interactive entertainment industry, I made a conscious decision to give all games an equal chance until I had played them. In my opinion, a good game has to have characteristics that will make it stand out in a crowd of mediocre ones. A couple examples of great games would be Mario, Metroid, and The Legend of Zelda. These games have great gameplay, spot-on controls, engaging storyline, graphical style, and most of all, are fun to play. These qualities in games allow them to be remembered for years to come, rather than be forgotten with hundreds of other games each year. .
In order to figure out which games were "good" by my standards, I decided to take a stab at a couple games that are based off of movies. I picked out the games "The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King" and "Enter the Matrix". These movies were huge moneymakers at the box office, received numerous awards, and acquired acclaim from critics from all around. However, the games were put to the test to see if they met my standards and in the end, they both failed miserably to reach even a average rating. .
The first game I started with was "The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King". Right away I was dazzled by the gorgeous graphics of the game with some of the people and beings in it almost life-like in animation. Next I realized that the game actually followed the movie series very closely in terms of storyline and plot, which was very nice to see. Then I started to actually play the game and not just watch it. At that moment the it started tumbling downhill. I am a guy that can handle some minor mistakes in the game's programming, but the game had so many chinks in the armor it would make the heroes in the Lord of the Rings lose an easy battle.
