South Park is an adult animated comedy show that airs every Wednesday night on Comedy Central. The show's creators, Trey Parker and Matt Stone, met in college at the University of Colorado where they began to create what is now the highest rated original series in the history of Comedy Central. South Park, for the most part, targets people ranging from ages 13 to 30. The main characters include four third grade boys named Kyle, Stan, Cartman, and Kenny, who all reside in the animated town of South Park. Each episode is not only an adventure for these boys, but also ultimately has an underlying meaning or agenda. The creators have purposely made most of the main characters in the show young boys. By making these characters young, they are able to satirize issues that otherwise might be found offensive or threatening. The audience and fans of South Park enjoy watching the show because it is hysterical to listen and watch eight-year-old boys cuss and speak about various things and issues as if they were fully grown adults. Not only do these characters" conversations contain adult issues but also each character has a very distinct and funny voice and dialect. This initially catches the young audience's attention, thus allowing the satire to have a better effect, whereas a more average sounding voice might not. .
The episode that will be discussed in this paper is one titled, "Sexual Harassment Panda." The show begins with a classroom of students patiently awaiting their guest speaker, who they later find out is a man in a panda costume. He enters the room singing a child-like song, sounding much like a Barney character, and begins lecturing the classroom of third graders on the very adult topic of sexual harassment. During the panda's discussion, Kyle calls Cartman an "ass sucker." Consequently, Stan feels "very offended and hurt" by this and decides that he is going to sue Kyle.
