A. Web pages can be anything your heart desires, it can be a Web page about yourself, business related, a Web page about your favourite athlete, your own cooking recipes, etc. B. As an example and to make it easier for everyone to understand all four steps I will choose to create my own personal Web page about myself. 5. Now that I have chosen the subject of my Web page I will have to decide the content to put on my Web page. 6. Since this is a personal Web page I will include details about my background, several photographs, and myself. III. Now that we have decided the content of our Web page we can move on to the second step, which is to select the design and layout of the Web page. A. Selecting the design and layout of a Web page is very crucial to any web site. B. Even if your Web page contains great content, visitors might get discouraged and not continue to view your entire Web page because of the layout and how it's put together. C. To demonstrate how a design can either make or break a Web page I will show you two pages with the same content but two totally different designs. [Show Design 1] 1. In the first design it is very plain, the aligning is all over the place, and the colour scheme used for the Web page is bad for the eyes. 2. Now in the second Web page you can see that the alignment is put together nicely. a. It includes several images, and the links are neatly placed on the left side to navigate the Web page. D. As you can see even though the two Web page's have the same content the design of the site is the important factor that makes a visitor continue to browse your Web page or move on to someone else's Web page. {PAUSE} E. The 2nd Web page was one of the hundreds of templates that are offered for free to users all over the Internet. 1. One of the most popular sites and most selection is www.freewebtemplates.com. a. For those of you that don't know what a template is, it's a pre-designed Web page and all you have to do is customize it to fit your needs.
