There has been Vikings around dated all the way back to the year 880. They were well known for their swift attacks, raids, and quick departures. They were impossible to defend against. The Franks built towns and castles in strategic locations to serve as refuges. They were great skilled seamen; wherever they went conflict would soon be there. The most important thing they ever did was invade England. It was also the most difficult thing they ever came across also. At the time when King Edward died, Harold proclaimed that he was the rightful heir. Apparently he wasn't the only one who thought that. This caused lots of conflict. There were two invasions on England just for this reason. King Harold Hardada of Norway, and as we all know him William the Conqueror. The Vikings were known throughout the world as fierce and cruel individuals. In the year 1066, there were two Viking invasions on England. .
The death of King Edward was a huge shock. No one knew what to do because, no knew of any heirs. After King Edwards death Harold a close friend married Edwards sister in order to become king. People of England agreed. They supported him, the only problem was, there were a very strong few that didn't. The first rival was King Hardrada. He claimed that King Edward and him had made a deal and that he should be king. The second being the great William the Conqueror. Who was well known for winning his battles. He thought that he should be the King of England. England was planning to stand and fight for their king. They all liked King Harold. .
Since Hardrada thought that he was king since him and King Edward had an agreement, King Hardrada of Norway immediately planned to invade England. King Hardrada landed on the Northern English coast. They "sacked" some villages, and headed to the city of York for battle. To little surprise King Harold had already heard news of their landing, and was already waiting for them when they arrived.
