Cujo: Parallel Experiences

Tad, an only child in the family of the Trentons, was tormented by the worst fear a child of 4 could have, a monster in the closet. Monsters are all that are bad, to a child, and this was the same for me. Tad and I were both around the same age, and being afraid of monsters, most likely had the same problems. Most kids want to and have to imagine monsters away, but our plight was more than just an imagination flaw. It was life, and death. Parent never believe children about "fake" monsters, for they aren't physical beings, but mental. This can torment a child to no end, this I talk from experience. .
Some monsters are good, while others are the epiphany of the devil. In Cujo, tad is tormented by what seems to be a killer in the mind of a St. Bernard, which is plagued by rabies. Tad's closet is a mere portal for this "monster" to peer into Tad's life waiting to strike. This is similar to my childhood monster, which had been watching from the hallway. I had watched him, and he, me. One thing that Tad did have over me was the fact that he had his Monster Words to repel the evil of monsters. I on the other hand, had a toy gun, which used batteries to simulate a gunshot. These two items (monster words, and the toy gun) stand for, in our minds, as a grim ward to monsters that they cannot hurt us. With these items we feel safety and security from Cujo, and the monster of my childhood.
When monsters do make it into a child's mind, they are very hard to get rid of. Then there are cases that the monsters can actually never go away. In my case I know that monsters aren't real now, but when I was young.monsters were very much real, and there was no absolute way of taking them away, or getting rid of them for good. Tad seemingly can get rid of his monster by barring up his closet, which he does, but this also has a week point. it always is open in the mornings. Once again, Tad's monster words come in affect to ward the monster out of his closet.
