I use the Internet almost every day, and I wonder how are all of these sites built because it seems like everyone has a web site on the Internet today. Creating a web site is not as hard as it appears. It does not require the expertise of a computer programmer. The steps to creating, publishing, and maintaining a web site are simple if followed correctly. An Internet web site can be created through registering a domain name, downloading or purchasing the appropriate software, actual creation and design of the site, implementing security features, publishing the site, and maintaining and updating the site as necessary. .
When you creating web site, the first thing you need is to develop hypertext markup language (HTML). According to David Crowder (2000), HTML is a set of special codes used to format a file for use as a Web page (p. 3). These codes, called tags, specify how the text and other elements on the Web page display in a Web browser and where the links on the page lead. Although there are other complex languages such as XML and DHTML, they are derived from the basics of HTML (David, 2000, p. 3-4). .
First thing to do before we get started on HTML is to open up a text-editing program such as Notepad or WordPad. HTML is just text so this can be accomplished by utilizing one of these simple programs. These programs can be downloaded in any world web site for free. There are other HTML editing/WebPages building programs out there such as Microsoft FrontPage, Macromedia Dreamweaver, and Macromedia Fireworks, but they have to be purchased in the computer software vendors (David, 2000, p. 4). Each of these companies make software that is easy to use and can produce beautiful web sites; however, these programs are used as general web site design tools and do not really provide features for developing business web sites. Therefore, to make your web site look beautiful and professional, you are better to learn how to create your web page in HTML.
