Ulyses Summary, from Lord tennyson

Death may end all, he says, but there is always something for them until they reach that end. There must be something out there of great import that has yet to be done, and that they are fit for such a venture.
Ulysses says to cut the lines and "push off" then, because his motivation holds strong. He wishes to sail "beyond the sunset and the baths of all the western stars" until the day he dies. Ulysses does not know what is to come for him and his crew. They may be brought down at sea or find paradise and meet the great Achilles, their old comrade. .
Ulysses says that even though they must give up so much, much will stay with his men too, even though they are not as strong as they used to be when they "moved earth and heaven", they have become a unified spirit of courage. That spirit may have been made weak by time and fate, but they have held to their resolve to accomplish whatever they strive for. Most importantly to Ulysses is that no matter what happens, that they never give up, never loose their desire "to strive, to seek, to find." .
             Opinion of Ulysses.
In my opinion Lord Tennyson advocates a strong belief in "carpe diem" and utilizes the theme throughout his poem "Ulysses". Tennyson uses the cries of an aging man's desires and his will to never yield in living, to disclose the need in all of men to live life to the fullest.
In the three stanzas of the whole poem, Ulysses" tenacity to find life never changes. He feels that if he were to stay in his current position that his spirit would remain dead. Ulysses recalls his glory days with a longing, and with each passing day, that world, is slipping from his sight. Realizing this, he cannot stand the thought of just "being," or standing still. To Ulysses his spirit can only find joy upon the open waters of the sea, and the unknown. .
When Ulysses passes on his throne to his son Telemachus a lot is revealed abut his character, and in his opinion his son is better suited for such a position than he is.
