While I was a senior in high school, I wanted to go to a university with a Reserve Officers Training Corps program and an engineering school. I decided to visit Virginia Polytechnic State University better known as Virginia Tech. On my way there, I noticed that the university was in the mountains, and they were gorgeous. This was something I wasn't use to seeing. When I got to Virginia Tech, I didn't know what to say because the campus was so beautiful. I was amazed at the main entrance, the buildings, and the Upper Quad.
When my parents and I drove thru the main entrance, all we saw were the school colors everywhere. The bushes were maroon and gold and were shaped in the letters v and t which stood for Virginia Tech. The roads of the main entrance were imprinted with the mascot feet which is a hokie bird, and they were maroon and gold, also. On the sides of the roads were farms with cows. The farms were there because the university was number one in a degree in agriculture. The farms and cows reminded me of home. Seeing all of these things made me feel welcome at Virginia Tech.
While driving through the campus, I noticed that the buildings were made alike. They all were made out of a mixture of gray and beige stone. The way the buildings were made reminded me of the Gothic style. It was so neat how every building had its own Gothic style. One building looked like a castle. That building is where registration was held at. It was the main building on campus. There was uniqueness about a set of buildings called the Upper Quad. The Upper Quad was up on a hill from the rest of campus. This is where the Corps of Cadets lived. These were the people that wanted to be in the military. Seeing the Upper Quad was fascinating because their buildings were made different. Everything was neater on Upper Quad than the rest of the campus. This is where I wanted to be because I wanted to be in the military.
