Miranda is quite an exceptional character as she was brought up on the island but is human. She lived in the "New World- which would be for her the "Old World-. She had expectations but not the same people from the "Old World- on arriving on the island after the shipwreck. She finds them nice and good when she sees them.

A Dialogue between Old England and New is the discussion between a mother and daughter on the History and politics of England. The mother (Old England) is facing problems that her daughter (New England) has noticed. These problems are in fact all the historical invasions, plots and murders that occurred in English History. Here again the writer demonstrates the plots and "evil- side present in Old England but absent in New England. When she wrote this poem, Anne Bradstreet did not know that the beginning of the civil war in 1642 would lead to the death, seven years later, of King Charles I. Her understanding of the "Old World- was correct as the dying old mother passed away in some way in 1649. The daughter considers her mother as a person about to die and maybe this death is going to lead to a re-birth. This fact brings in consideration the point (stated in the lecture of the 19th of February by Dr. Andrew Taylor) that there is a "shift in generation- as the mother is about to be a child compare to New England who has already grown up. The daughter is glad for her mother's illness and hopes she can replace her; I quote (line 19 and 20): .
