Morality in the White House

.
"Fourteen presidents have dealt with allegations of extramarital affairs." Although much has remained unproven, the question of morality is still there. How can a leader be loyal to our needs if they can't even handle being loyal in their personal relationship? Recently we heard of Clinton's impeachment charges that he illegally tried to cover up an affair with Monica Lewinsky. These allegations did prove to be true, which shows that in fact our presidents morals are not ones we would want for our children or ourselves. That is, unless you believe adultery, lying, and insincerity are good morals to adopt. Any person that can decipher right from wrong can plainly see that this was a morally wrong act that affects more that just himself. Does a public figures personal behavior and private life affect the way they conduct public business. Yes, of course it does. Just as Dwight Eisenhower stated, "The spirit of a man is more important than mere physical strength, and the spiritual fiber of a nation than its wealth." How could anyone live with two sets of values without them conflicting? It's pretty much impossible if you ask me. .
Some say the moral decline we are experiencing today are due to the social changes that took place during the 1960's. "Prior to that decade, America was a more tranquil and civil society in which most people shared the same deep respect for family, religion and community." The young people mainly were responsible for the change; they rejected the traditional values and beliefs of their parents and adopted new traditions. Drug use and premarital sex blossomed, and continued to gain greater acceptance. It has continued throughout the decades, leading us further in the wrong direction. Considering this, it shows that a moral leader is needed to lead the country in the right direction. .
There has to be two sides to every issue. Regarding the president's morality, we either believe that it does matter and it does affect policy, or just focus on the job he does politically not personally.
