Growing up as a military dependent has impacted my life in many positive ways. I believe I have matured more quickly and gained more independence than I would have otherwise had had I remained in my hometown. Moreover, I believe my social skills and tolerance for different cultures have surpassed those of my non-military counterparts. But, moving with the military, particularly to foreign countries, has an added responsibility - representing America. .
Growing up in a military culture has always been interesting. Sometimes I would not know when my parents would tell me it was time to move again resulting in my having to make new friends again, but I believe it's the best life out there. Though my hometown is nowhere, my friends are everywhere. I have grown up with the saying "The home is where the Heart and family is". I have experienced so many things that a normal American teenager will never know. The world is my hometown. I have been able to visit numerous countries, learn new languages, learn different cultures, and know what it's like to be the "new kid" many times over. Places change, friends depart, and houses turn over, but I have grown up secure, knowing that family remains constant.
Mobility has been my way of life. I have learned to be flexible and understand other cultures. I have learned a great deal about life, and met several interesting people paving the way towards becoming an adult. .
Many people might wonder about my roots, but they are deep and strong. I am able to sink them quickly, absorbing all that a new location can offer, and hopefully, benefit from another enriching experience. I have traveled to Italy, France, Belgium, England, and other European countries. These experiences have taught me a lot of lessons. I am able to be open and more tolerant based on these experiences. .
The one thing about traveling and moving often is that farewells are never easy. But even in sorrow comes strength and ability to face the next day.
