Two views on Mahatma Gandhi


            
             Mahatma Gandhi dedicated his whole life to the service of the motherland, and service of humanity. He realized that to fight against injustice, it was vital for the people to have unity amongst themselves. He organized many meetings, and made the people aware of the situation and to bring unity. He was prepared to face all hardships and obstacles. He suffered much humiliation, faced many problems, but he did not give up. He raised his voice against the inhuman and unjust treatment meted out to low cast people of India. He was arrested and imprisoned many times. Finally, all his hard work paid off, and India attained freedom on August 15th, 1947. People of India named Mahatma Gandhi as "Father of the Nation". (Mahatma story, 2001).
             In its fight for freedom, India had to pay a heavy price. What was once a large single geographical unit, now comprised of two new nations - India and Pakistan. This happened according to Mahatma Gandhi's final negotiation with the British government. In the quest of attaining freedom for India, Mr. Gandhi agreed to this division. In his opinion, he was getting old and wants to enjoy freedom. So walked away from his philosophies and agreed to the division of India to achieve a free India for him. But his decision created more problems for Indian people which the country is still facing. Hindus and Muslims started fighting, and People of both communities were killed brutally, and there was large scale bloodshed all around. (Mahatma story, 2001).
             Even though Mr. Gandhi had great philosophies to fight for freedom, his decision to agree with the division to enjoy freedom resulted in The fight between two countries which is still going on and the death toll raised over 2 million for last 57 years. Also instead of conducting peaceful strikes and dying with out opposing, if people of India started opposing back to British army, they would have achieved freedom long before 1947.
