The issue as to whether a foreign-born person should be able to run for the .
presidency in our country has really developed into quite a hot topic. With the election of .
actor Arnold Schwarzenegger as the Governor of California, much attention and debate .
has been brought to the forefront of people's minds. Should a person bron in another .
country be able to move to America and eventually become the "most powerful person in .
the world"? I strongly believe the answer to this question is no.
In the article written by Dan Thomasson, he argues that many of the greatest .
minds in politics have been foreign-born. He believes that our nation is suffering as a .
whole by not giving these people the chance to run for the presidency. He argues that the .
constitutional law, in some way, is taking away the chance of the American dream for .
some immigrants.
I personally think that allowing foreign-born Americans the chance at presidency .
is not such a good idea. First, I would find it very odd that a person, regardless of how .
long they have lived in the country, would want to become our President. Aside from .
that, they would also need the educational background, political knowledge, strong .
family structure and the financial backing. Considering these factors, added with the fact .
that I believe Americans would never elect a foreigner into the presidency, I think .
amending the constitution on this matter is not only a bad idea but a waste of time.
