Great Britain is a country which had many magnificent rulers known all over the world. Almost every British monarch was invincible, powerful, imperious and worldwide respectable. That is why choosing one of them to fulfill the topic of this essay was a hard decision for me. I hope I finally made a good one. .
In my opinion queen Elisabeth I also called "Virgin Queen" (on account of the fact that she was unmarried) or "Gloriana" is a British queen whose life is worth of getting acquainted to. Her long reign (1558-1603) was a period of great national achievements, not mentioning the cultural improvement. .
Elisabeth I was daughter of Henry VIII and queen Anne Boleyn and was born at Greenwich at September 7, 1533. She was carefully educated and attaining considerable proficiency in Latin, French, Italian and Greek. At the age of 25 she succeeded her sister - Mary and was received in London with immense joy. She was surrounded by numerous successive suitors , but she never married. In further years of her reign the succeeding Popes refused to acknowledge Elizabeth's title according to the fact that she was brought up in the Protestant faith. English, internal, religious conflict was the most remarkable of Queen's struggles. The greatest problem was claim of Mary, Queen of Scots, to the crown of England but finally she never got it. Elizabeth I died at Richmond at march 24, 1603. There are many opinions about her . Some say that she was very selfish, unwomanly hard, she had vacillations of temper, indelicate speech and manners. But overall she was full of energy and had a good sense. After her father Henry VIII she inherited strength, will, pride and passion for splendor and after her mother hers vanity and magnetism. .
In my opinion she survived in a world that was dominated by men, proved that a woman could rule as well as any men. She united her people during times when world was divided by religious conflict.
