Youth Sport Observation

For this report I observed a little league baseball game. I observed a Lake Forest majors game at El Toro field. It was Saturday April 26, at about 12:30 PM. I got there and it was the Dodgers coached by Dave Collier vs. the Padres coached by Bob Benes. Wow I so remember having to do this. These days in baseball were so fun, this was the same age when I became an All-Star for the first time. It brought back so many memories. But the field looks so much smaller now than I remember it. The fence is so short in respect to what I used to think. The pitchers mound looks so close to home plate. If I had to pitch a ball now I'd be afraid of killing the batter. .
It was a pretty sunny day and the weather was very nice for a baseball game. Each team was warming up on opposite sides of the field. Now at this age, games only last 6 innings, so I knew the game wasn't going to be very long, but that was alright. After about 25 minutes or so the teams went into the dugouts to get ready to start the game. .
From what I saw, both coaches were extremely competitive. I found out later that these were 2 of the best teams in the league this year. While in the dugout, the Padres coach Benes gave a pretty good pep-talk about how the most important thing was to have fun, to incorporate what they were practicing and make contact because it would create runs. That reminded me of how the Angels' coach talked, Mike would always say make contact, get hits, and that will create points on the board. The game ended up 6-2, with the Padres winning. .
From sitting in both stands, the parents seemed really into the game. They all were cheering for their own team members, and were really into the game. More so than I'm used to or remember seeing. I'm guessing it was because this was a big game for the two. However, on the side of the Dodgers, there was one mom that was really annoying and obnoxious. When one of the kids made a mistake or struck out, she would let out a really loud sigh.
