THE PLACE OF THE WOMEN IN AMERICAN LITERATURE.
By 1893, people identify with modern America were in a place that have large-scale industry, modern technology and a heterogeneous population of diverse races, classes and ethnic groups. Women in the United States during the 19th century organized and participated in a great variety of reform movement during the pre-civil war period. I think that self-realization was seemingly encouraged by increased acceptance of women in literature. .
American life was changed by the new patterns of American social, economical and cultural life. In that era, women were affected more than men; furthermore women became the victims of changing American lifestyles. Because of these chances, women started to warn their fellow-men and also achieve their self-realization due to their needs for expression, and finally they found a place in literature in 19th century. In that era, wifehood and motherhood were regarded as women's most significant responsibilities. Maternity, which is defined as a natural biological role of woman, had been traditionally regarded as their major social role as well. However, I think that women mustn't accept the stereotype that "a woman's place is in the home" because this stereotype prevents women from expressing themselves. .
I believe that also nowadays the cultural pressure for women to become mothers and wives still prevents many talented women from expressing themselves freely. I don't think that the role of the women is only to cook, to clean the house, to take care of the baby but also express themselves and work outside the house. However, in pre-war years, women could not show their talents and share them with others because the society, which women were in, couldn't accept this. Also, women in those years, saw some parallels between the position of women and the slaves. We can learn their opinions from the texts, which women writers wrote in that era and women defined themselves as passive and obedient to their husbands, .
