Falling Water

.
"There in a beautiful forest was a solid, high rock ledge rising beside a waterfall, and the natural thing seemed to be to cantilever the house from the rock bank over the falling water Then came (of course) Mr. Kaufmann's love for the beautiful site. He loved the site where the house was built and liked to listen to the waterfall. So that was a prime motive in the design . I think that you can hear the waterfall when you look at the design. At least it is there, and he lives intimately with the thing he loves." -Frank Lloyd Wright in an interview with Hugh Downs, 1954.(WPC: Falling Water).
Harmony with nature is necessary for the very existence of mankind. Land is the one thing that man can not create any more of, and Frank Lloyd Wright found a way to minimally disturb nature. Falling Water looks as if it has been the since the creation of nature, because it fits so naturally. As Frank Lloyd Wright said in the interview he could hear the waterfall in the design. Nearly seventy years later millions of people have been able to hear the waterfall through his amazing design. .
As the world grows it seems that cities are taking over, small towns miles from the cities are getting overrun with the overflow from the overly populated cities. Falling Water is a reminder to man that man and nature should be able to coexist in harmony. There are too many contractors in the world today who destroy nature to make there yuppie sub-divisions. If more architects would help with the preservation of nature like Frank Lloyd Wright did with the design of Falling Water the world would be a Nicer place. .
The interior of Falling Water was not ignored by Frank Lloyd Wright, he extended the cantilever design into the furniture within the house. Not too mention the amazing use of casement windows throughout the house. Due to the use of cantilevers as floors the exterior walls have no need for corner supports.
