Cold war


The Vietnam War is called by many today to be one of the only wars in the history of the United States that they ever been defeated in. The Cold War ended in the late 80's early 90's when the Soviet Union and communist fell and now most of the old Soviet Union is now know as Russia. During World War II the Soviets and the US were fight together to stop another country from becoming a dominant power, but in life money, greed and power caused the two to start this war with each other.
             The one most important factor in the Cold War was the Alliances that were created on the nation-state level. The way in which the US and the Soviet Union formed their alliances were through the spread of their ideology and there money to other countries so that they would influence other countries into joining the fight. The United States sponsored a number of regional alliances and in 1949 the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) was created. The Soviet Union responded in 1955 with the Warsaw Treaty Organization (Warsaw Pact) During World War II, the US dropped an atom bomb on Japan, who at the time was one of their biggest enemies. After the War, the US pumped billions of dollars back into the Japanese economy because it was afraid that Japan was going to become a communist country and they would have been intimated if China, Russia and Japan were all communist nations. Nations like England, France and most of Europe was backing the United States and countries like China, North Korea, Cuba and Vietnam were backing the Soviet Union. .
             The international level, at first had no effect in the Cold War, no other country or any international organization like the United Nations got involved in the Cold War. The international community started to have a hand in the Cold War was when Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev came into office. As leader of the Soviet Union he announced that the USSR was willing to allow Eastern Europeans chase their own domestic policies.
