The life of Rupert Chawner Brooke

While in Rugby he was taught and tutored by a young man named St. John Welles Lucas-Lucas who immediately saw Rupert's talent for poetry. "Lucas was a French scholar, who latter edited The Oxford Book Of French Verse. He introduced Rupert to the work of the "decadent" poets of the 1890s,"(Hassall 36). While in School Field he also met two other men who were to shape his writing significantly. These two men were Geoffrey Keynes and Hugh Russell-Smith. Latter in life Geoffrey Keynes would write a biography containing most of Rupert letters to all of his closest friends showing an accurate description of Ruperts short but very eventful life. Ruperte Brooke was very highly influenced by his friends, family and the war that was starting around him as portrayed by his letters and poems. .
The one person that influenced his life the most would be his mother, Mary Ruth Brooke because how strong willed she was and not afraid to speak her mind. An example of this is a letter from Mrs. Brooke, "I do not approve of you seeing that young woman, Miss Oliver. You are much too good for her and she is too young for you. She is five years your junior. What will everyone start saying about you. That the poet and director is in love with a child and that they are about to run away,"(Keynes 194). Another example of Ruperts mother strong wildness is, "Fifty German students who are "seeing England", and taking Cambridge this week, will be there-it's for them, in any way, the show is being got up. And there"ll be other people as are still left in Cambridge--among them Rose,"(Keynes 253). In both of the above excerpts it shows hoe controlling his mother was. The first was with his relationships with other women and the second with writing her everyday. She made sure that Rupert Brooke was to be a good and outstanding person with no skeletons in his closet. .
Another person that highly influenced Rupert Brooke life was Noel Oliver because of the strong personal feelings he had for her.
