The Heart

The right coronary supplies the sinoartrial node (SA node) or pacemaker of the heart. When this vessel loses its ability to supply the node, a person usually needs to have a pacemaker placed in their thoracic wall to take the place of the original pacemaker. .
Another important part of the heart are the alveoli. They are the final branches of the respiratory tree and act as the primary gas exchange units of the lung. The gas-blood barrier between the alveolar space and the pulmonary capillaries is extremely thin, allowing for rapid gas exchange. To reach the blood, oxygen must diffuse through the alveolar epithelium, a thin space between the capillary endothelium. The opposite follows the reverse course to reach the alveoli. .
There are so many diseases and malfunctions of the heart. Some that are going to be concentrated on are congenital heart disease, congestive heart failure, and arrhythmias. The first, congenital heart disease (CHD), is the name given to any heart defect or malformation that is present at birth. Most types of CHD involve a deformity within the heart and/or the large blood vessels connected to the heart (e.g., aorta, pulmonary artery). Currently, there are about 35 different types of congenital heart defects. In some patients, the defect or defects may be mild and not noticed right away, but then found later in life. In other children, the effects of the defect(s) are so severe that diagnosis occurs eitehr before birth or around the time that the baby is born. With all the technology today, many babies who are born with congenital heart disease tend to lead a very healthy and normal lives. .
Another disease or malfunction of the heart is, congestive heart failure (CHF), or heart failure, which is a condition in which the heart cannot pump enough blood to the bodies other organs. This can result from several things such as: Narrowed arteries, past heart attack, high blood pressure, heart valve disease, primary disease of the heart muscle itself, heart defects present at birth, or infection of the heart valves and/or heart muscle itself.
