Einstein was born on march 14, 1879 in UIM, Wurttemberg, Germany. The son of Paullina Koch and Hermann Einstein. He first realized the wonders of science at the age of four, when his dad showed him a compass. Einstein was impressed by the mysterious behaviour of the compass, and that no matter which way you turn it the arrow always pointed in the same direction. Einstein later said, "that experience made a deep and lasting impression on me". Later in his life as a kid, Einstein's uncle Jacob introduced him to mathematics and specifically, equations. 1886 Albert Einstein began school in Munich, he also had religious education at home where he was taught Judaism. School was an not a good experience for Einstein. He hated how war strategies were taught at school and he didn't like the military discipline that prevailed in most German schools. The teachers weren't so happy about how Einstein was doing and once, one of his teachers told him; "you know Einstein, you will never amount to anything.
"In order to be admitted to study at the ETH in Zurich, Einstein took his entrance examination in October 1895. However, some of his results weren't and, following the advice of a friend, he attended the "Kantonsschule" in the town of Aarau in order to improve his knowledge. In early October 1896 he received his school certificate and shortly thereafter enrolled at the Eidgenossische Polytechnische Schule with the goal of becoming a teacher in Mathematics and Physics. Einstein, being an average student, finished his studies with a diploma degree in July 1900. He then applied, without success, for assistantships at the Polytechnische Schule and other universities. In 1900 he cast off his German citizenship and formally applied for the Swiss one which he was granted on February 21, 1901.Between May 1901 and January 1902 he was teacher in Winterthur and Schaffhausen.
