Throughout the United States, education has become more important for the future of the nation. In New York State, there are a few choices in schools. Today, children may attend private, city or suburban schools. The majority of students attend city and suburban schools, which together are often known as public schools. "The public schools very in performance as you go from cities to suburbs. Children learning in the suburbs have the advantage over the same aged children of city schools" (Stern2). Today's suburban schools are more beneficial for the youth in many ways. Suburban schools have the advantage over cities because of staffing, money and environmental benefits.
There are many city schools throughout New York State. The city school buildings are growing more and more crowded because these schools have a rapid rate of enrollment each year. This causes many problems for the city schools because the students out number the staff. Staffing is essential in city schools, but apparently no one wants to work in the urban school districts because of the crime rates, population and the low pay for these terrible positions. Teachers in city schools get paid a significant amount less than those working in the suburbs, which forces many teachers to look elsewhere for a better paying position. In response to this, city schools are so desperate that they give teaching positions to unqualified people who cannot properly educate the children. It is said that suburban schools "cherry pick" the most qualified teachers and leave the cities with nothing and because of these unqualified teachers, statistics show that city school students score the lowest on state exams (Stern 2). Students in the city schools are also often a year or two behind those of the suburbs.
There are many factors outside of the schools that have an impact on how the schools perform. Although the majority of children in today's society go to school, many of them do not go for the purpose to learn.
