Kevin Smith

Kevin Smith, known for his low-budget movies that include him as a vital character in the series of different movies, is unlike any other director we hear of on a daily basis. He could be classified by his independent styles or even the Hollywood films full of cameos from famous actors. He is unlike any director/writer/actor out there. He may not have the list of films like Speilberg, but his list does contain a few worth mentioning. This regular guy is just that, a regular guy. .
This regular guy charm is what gives him the spark that he sends out in his movies. This director makes films like heartfelt comedies, they may contain somewhat derogatory language, and they have characters that are like everyday people. This is what grabs the audience of twenty somethings and gets them hooked to his so-called series. .
The movies aren't quite a series but instead actors playing multiple characters in multiple movies as well as the occasional mentioning of characters in past movies. Smith's first movies Clerks, Mallrats, and Chasing Amy were "heartfelt comedies mixed in with the occasional all-out raucous affair" (Cnn.com). The characters appeal to the twenty-somethings of today by using a full of language and sarcasm and situations that twenty-somethings tend to be in, college, roommates and so on. What this means is the characters hang out in stores, work lame jobs, and have crazy relationships. These heartfelt comedies usually consisted of boy looses girl, boy gets girl back. These story lines are always pleasing. But they are exciting for the stumbles the boy makes and the situations that arise. Smith uses situations that he was in and or his friends have been in. .
The language in the movies is somewhat derogatory with rude jokes and occasional banter on homosexuality. But the language is what makes the movies strong. When two men can have an intelligent conversation regarding how Superman could not impregnate Lois Lane, or how the Death Star in Star Wars had contracted workers and so on.
