The Sun is a daily paper available throughout England. It is read by the common man and could be compared to the New York Post. They both use sensationalism as the root of the majority of their stories. The format is quite similar, as well. The Sun and the Post both usually feature two main stories of the front page. The papers both covered stories of highs and lows of their stock market (US Stock market and UK Stock market), celebrity stories movies, comics, crosswords want ads, and a universal story of newspapers around the world " The War on Terror. It is just as important to the rest o~ the world as it is to us in the United States.
I believe that although some of the stories are similar, the main thing that differentiates the two newspapers is the sexual exploitation of the Sun. The Sun includes features such as: Page 3 which contains a nude shot of a different girl everyday, and advertisement much more sexually orientated than we have. This is not acceptable by our standards of a daily newspaper yet sex is popular among our tabloids, it is a part of the European culture. Sex is not as frowned upon in Europe, it is accepted as normal by most Europeans.
Other differences are the sports which are covered in European newspapers. Our popular sports are basketball, baseball, football, hockey and golf. In Europe their papers focus on soccer known as football, rugby and cricket, which are the more popular sports in most European countries. Another difference is the amount of celebrity coverage of the Sun. The Post segregates a small section of the paper to celebrity rumors, events and pictures, unless a major story if features a celebrity, then it would be more. The coverage in the Post doesn't compare to the amount of coverage the Sun designates to celebrities, throughout the paper various stories, rumors and pictures feature popular celebrity. One of the cover stories with contained a full body picture of Kylie Minogue in lingerie on the front cover and 4 pages of pictures of her modeling her new lingerie line, there was a small article in the Post mentioning her new line the same day.
