Affirmative Reaction

             Affirmative Reaction .
             .
Our Nation (one that prides its self in being the moral conscience of the world) is still torn over an issue that reflects the ignorant prejudice of it's past. The self contradictory policy of affirmative action is a boisterous act of discrimination which deprives the general public of equal opportunity, as is described in the fourteenth amendment clause of "equal protection.". This is not to mention the policy's contravention of the American moral code which we all rely on and live by. .
So what is this great injustice that threatens equal opportunity and in turn, American principles? The act supporting affirmative action was amended in 1965 by President Johnson as a method of indemnifying discrimination that had plauged the African American people for centuries. The policy intended to regulate college admission and employers in order to give minorities the same opportunities as the Caucasian and Asian population, avoiding any further race discrimination in the US. (Jones) While our government may have had the best intentions, Affirmative Action has evolved into a justifiable means of discrimination. Thousands of white and Asian citizens have fallen victim to the policy as more and more people are being hired and excepted into colleges due their minority status rather than qualification or merit. In a recent sociological study of prestigious colleges it was found that the odds of a African-American being admitted into any program compared to that of a white man with the same credentials was an average 30 to 1 (charez). Fredrick R. Lynch (a renowned and prestigious writer on the subject of social issues) compared Affirmative Action to a steam roller that couldn't be stopped by an opposing status qou who condemns the policy due to white guilt, the fear of being labeled racist, and the elusive and capricious implemation of Affirmative Action policies.
