Rape paper

But these are not the only forms of rape. Others can include certain actions that occur during intercourse that the partner does not know or consent to, like videotaping, or displaying the act on the Internet. Such a thing occurred at a local Maryland high school called St. Paul's School for boys in 1999. A 16-year-old varsity lacrosse player videotaped himself having sex with a girl, and showed the tape to some of his teammates the following day. When the higher-ups in the school heard what happened, they sought immediate disciplinary action, expelling the offender, kicking eight varsity and junior varsity players off the team, and cancelled the varsity season, which was significant because they were favored to win that year. The school's decision was widely commended, yet people seemed to blame everything from the girl to athleticism for this action. Everything was blamed except the player himself, who was really the one responsible for the action.
Currently, as a society, we place too much focus of rape trials on the victim. It is unique in this aspect; we do not question victims of armed robbery what they had to drink .
             .
before the crime occurred, or what they may have been wearing to "incite" this action. Proof of the focus on the victim was evident to me even at orientation for FSU. They issued warnings to the student body; especially the female students, to be careful when out at night, and never go walking alone. It is the same in popular women's magazines, .
like the November 2002 Cosmopolitan. On the cover, it advertised 10 things you can do to avoid being raped. This is saying that it is up to the victim to avoid being raped, and not up to society to catch the rapists. Rape is an accepted occurrence here, especially in the city. Basically, we are told that if we don't keep ourselves safe, it's our own fault. The fact that rapists exist is accepted "in a way that the presence of armed robbers [are] not" (Ruby, Stop Tolerating 37).
