Racial profiling is another horrific part of discrimination. This is where someone automatically assumes a certain color person committed the crime. Many big city police deal with and practice racial profiling everyday. This is only natural because it is a proven fact that blacks are responsible for a disproportionate amount of crime that is committed. Most police say they profile for reason and not racism. Racial profiling is a street term used. It is not something we teach even though "profiling" is taught. Many police use racial profiling as a tool and nothing more. Regardless of how or if it is used, this is a subject rarely talked about.
Today, blacks are looked down on while Asian Americans are being labeled as the model minority group. Even though they have been praised for their success, their job title and income still fall short of the Native Americans. Asian Americans make significantly less money than white Americans and they tend to work in the labor markets secondary sector. This is known as glass ceiling. Glass ceiling is a barrier through which top management positions can only be seen and not reached by Asian Americans. By being stereotyped in this manner, many believe that Asian Americans are passive and lack the aggressiveness required for the administrative part of a job. Even though Asian Americans have accomplished such "success", they are beginning to experience some terrible racists acts toward them on college campuses. Racial graffiti and allusive acts are just a few of the things some Asian Americans endure. In some cities, it has went as far as murder, and yet no one was really punished.
Environmental racism is another problem we face everyday. This is where people of color, black or hispanic, are placed where the pollution level is the highest. This includes low-income and minority communities. Social equity refers to the role of social factors, such as race, ethnicity, class and lifestyles, in environmental decision making.
