Psychological Heath from Adolescence to Later Adulthood.
In "Development Paths of Psychological Health from Early Adolescence to Later Adulthood," by Constance J. Jones and William Meredith a study was conducted on health from early Adolescence to later adulthood. The researches in this experiment used longitudinal research to determine age related changes. In this experiment psychological health is being measured in three different ways, decreased psychological health with age, lack of association between psychological health and age, and increased psychological health with age. .
The hypothesis in this article is developmental paths of psychological health were examine for 236 participants of the Berkeley Growth Study, the Berkeley Guidance study and the Oakland Growth Study. The Psychological Health Index (PHI) was based on California Q-sort ratings which were used for participants 14, 18, 30, 40, 50 and 62 years of age. The research also used a Latent Curve to measure the patient's life span. Although each group listed above were interviewed at different ages not all the same. .
In this experiment the researchers used data from three longitudinal studies, Berkeley Growth Study (BGS), Berkeley Guidance Study (GS), and the Oakland Guidance Study (OGS). Each of these studies began in 1928 and is still going on today. The Berkeley Growth Study (BGS) which began in 1928; infants selected at birth at a hospital were researched from birth till they were elderly people. The Berkeley Guidance Study (GS) began in 1928. People were selected randomly every third infant born in Berkeley form January 1928 to June 1929. Half of the GS participant's mothers were given advice on general issues on childhood behavior and development; the other group did not receive any advice. The group that received advice was the Guidance group and the group that received no advice was the controlled group. The Guidance group was interviewed twice at childhood and three times at adulthood, all participants were interviewed at the same age and both groups suffered from depression.
