What is the American Dream? Well actually that's for you to decide. Most people consider it to be the "perfect" life. What ever that means, but really it's having a big house with the white picket fence, the perfect family, a great job that you never complain about, and not having to worry about if you"ll make ends meet with next weeks pay check. Lots of people have different dreams, especially when you consider different ages, gender, and nationalities. That is why I have conducted a survey that, consisting of five questions, allowing me to analyze my results.
The first way I analyzed my surveys was by age. It was brought to my attention that the younger generation (1-17) was not too concerned about money in the American Dream. This made me think, why wouldn't it be a big issue? Well it might be because they are not really aware of how costly the world can be. Also I think since most young adults do not support themselves yet; they don't have the full aspect of how money is important. Moreover, the older generations (18-30), (31-50) and (50+) thought that money was very important in achieving the American Dream.
When comparing the surveys according to gender, I found that women see money an important part of the American Dream, and that happiness can be bought to a certain extent such as, giving to the needy, material things, and it just makes life easier. From what I read from the male point of view, two out of three thought money wasn't important. "The best things in life are free".
Next, I analyzed my surveys based on nationality, which was split into categories of African American decent and not of African American decent. Based on my reading from the numerical question, the African Americans, one third thought money is not important. As for the rest, they thought money is essential in the lifestyle they want to live. To the contrary, not of African American decent, two out of six thought money was fairly important.
