War Rhetoric- What does it take to gain my support?

War rhetoric is a method used to justify why wars are fought. This is very important because if the war is not supported by the majority, it can reflect poorly on those in charge. There are many different approaches to get people to support a war. In the past, leaders have used posters to portray the "enemy" threatening are way of life. They have also given compelling speeches to motivate people to support what they believe in. This is the main focus of my paper; what is the most productive rhetoric to get me to support a war? Some speakers prefer different rhetorical appeals to get their point across. Facts are very vital in getting people to believe something but without emotion you may lack the support you need. When you use emotion, it can make people realize that the problems that face our country can personally affect them. I believe that a mix of logic and emotion are the best method to get my support for war.
The reason logic is the best appeal is because evidence can evoke emotion if given in the right context. When I know the facts, I"m more likely to support what you are pitching me. That's all war rhetoric is, the speaker is pitching an idea to the crowd. The government normally believes in going to fight a war or stopping communism in another country and it's their duty to get the majority to agree with them. This is why these speeches are so important. If the speaker fails to get his point across it could have drastic repercussions. There was a lot of controversy with "Operation Enduring Freedom" and whether or not the US should engage in war with Iraq. The main problem was that Iraq may have had weapons of mass destruction and chemical warfare. NATO was unable to find these weapons and Iraq said they didn't have any. With the possibility of these weapons in the hands of someone such as Saddam Hussein, it made a very good emotional appeal. We have an image of Saddam Hussein; to me, he is the typical "enemy".
