Hamlet

In the play Hamlet, by William Shakespeare, many of the characters in the play are faced with emotional problems or tragedies that have occurred in their lives. I feel love is the most important theme in Hamlet. This love is though followed by revenge which is what drives Hamlets love. Hamlet was affected by the death of his father which had a huge impact on his life. Hamlet is then filled with anger when his mother re-marries to the Kings brother Claudius in less then two months after King Hamlet's death. Hamlet then finds out the truth of how his father really died, when he his met by his fathers ghost and is told about the murder. King Hamlet tells his son that he must get revenge on his murder. "Revenge his foul and most unnatural murder." (Act 1, Sc 5, Ln 31). Hamlet swears to his father that he will revenge for him. "Haste me to know't, that I, with wings as swift as meditation or the thoughts of love, may sweep to my revenge" (Act 1, Sc 5, Ln 35-7). Hamlet is confused with his father's death not knowing what to believe. Even after the ghost scene, Hamlet seems to be undecided between the truth (was his father really murdered by his uncle?) and depression. Hamlet even considers suicide as a result to all this drama. "To be or not to be-that is the question" (Act 3, Sc 1, Ln 64). Hamlet did not act as quickly as he said he would. Hamlet hesitates to act quickly because he doesn't want himself to be carried away by this excitement.
Hamlet decides to set Claudius up to make certain that he really killed King Hamlet. Hamlets plans a trap for Claudius in which he makes up a play for the King and Queen based on a murder tragedy. Hamlet hopes to see a reaction from Claudius during the murder scene in hope of determining his guilt. "The play's the thing wherein I"ll catch the conscience of the king". The play works but does not make Hamlet take action just yet. When hamlet is most bound to act, he gets puzzled and lost.
