There were many motives behind the British establishing a colony in North America. Some of the motives are to find gold, silver, and copper. Others were to strengthen the British economy, discover new crops, spread religion and to bring fame and fortune to England. The British Empire became stronger with their success.
The British colony wanted to find more gold, silver, and copper. They thought North America would be plentiful with these minerals. However, when they got there they were not successful in finding any of the minerals they were hoping to find. The colonists were unable to find these minerals close to the coast were they settled. As time moved on they traveled further in land, and minerals became more abundant. As Britain minded for gold, silver, and copper they shipped most of it back to there home land and made a profit on it.
Another reason the British wanted to establish a new colony in North America, was to make a profit. The way they made their profits was by grow crops and trading with other colonies. By settling in North America it would spread their trade routes with more exotic countries. A new crop, which was introduced by the Indians, was tobacco. John Rolfe introduced tobacco to other English colonists to earn more profit for the new established North American Colony. By doing this the English colonist were smoking less weed and more tobacco. .
By settling in North America the colonists were able to practice their religion freely and spread the word of their religion to others, including the American Indians. While teaching their religion to the savages they were able to trade goods at the same time. Queen Elizabeth was more interested in politics then religion and the colonists were able to practice religion as they chose. By moving to North America the colonist could practice more easily, rather than hide it and practicing secret. .
England was trying to acquire as much land as possible.
