Character vs. Character


Robert was so eager to get behind the wheel and feel the thrill of being on the road, he didn't even think about the possibility of such accidents happening. He didn't seem to even feel any guilt or worry. However, during the "hypnotic accident," he does think about the little girl in the other car he is about to crash with. .
             "It was not the fear in the man's face that reached Robert Procter. It was the trust in the face of the sleeping girl." (pg. 131, paragraph 7).
             Right before he crashes into the car, he feels such fear for the innocent, little girl in the other car. He feels such guilt; he would be the one destroying the life of the innocent, little girl.
             In the same way, right before Macbeth is about to kill Duncan, he thinks about how innocent Duncan is, and how wrong it would be. .
             "Besides, this Duncan .
             Hath borne his faculities so meek, hath been .
             So clear in his great office, that his virtues.
             Will plead like angels, trumpet-tongu"d against.
             The deep damnation of his taking-off." (Act 1, Scene 7, line 16-20).
             He is saying that the heavens will seek revenge for killing such a good person like Duncan. He feels such fear and guilt. And the guilt only builds up after he has done the deed. However, shortly after Macbeth has become king, he becomes cruel and evil because of his guilt of Duncan's murder. First he kills Banquo, his best friend, because he thinks he knows too much, and then he kills Macduff's family who are innocent people. He does not feel any guilt after these murders because of now that he is king, he can do anything he pleases. .
             In the short story "Bluffing" written by Gail Helgason, one of the main characters are Liam who is critically injured from a bear attack. Liam and his girlfriend Gabriella were off hiking and exploring in the woods and while resting, they got into a little fight and Gabriella started walking away as Liam followed her. Suddenly, she paused and realized she was in the presence of a grizzly bear.
