We first see Horatio being invited to the watch the apparition said to be lurking around the kingdom. Soon Horatio's doubts were gone, he watched as the ghost entered only to leave soon after in silence. After trying and failing to speak with the ghost one more time he goes to tell Prince Hamlet of his wandering father. Next we come upon king Claudius speaking to his assembled council, morning the death of his brother and rejoicing his speedy marriage to his sister-in-law. At this point Horatio interrupts Hamlet's dark and depressed thoughts relaying the events of the previous nights. Hamlet joins the night's watch, and suddenly the spirit appears. Hamlet begs the ghost to reveal what robs his father of peace and the king tells him he was murdered. By his own brother so Hamlet vows to think only of avenging this death and adopts a disguise of mental insanity. .
ACT 2.
We come into this act seeing Ophelia's father explaining to her, Hamlet has gone mad because of his feelings fore her. He then takes her to explain this to King Claudius, hastily he sends for friends of Prince Hamlet. He hopes they will discover the cause of Hamlet's recent madness. Polonius reports that Ophelia's rejection of Hamlet's desire has caused the Prince's insanity. He produces a poetic love letter from Hamlet to Ophelia as evidence. To prove this theory further they secretly observe a rigged encounter between Hamlet and Ophelia that the King Queen have set-up. Later on the Prince's distrust for his friends is confirmed when they admit that Claudius had sent for them. They try to cheer him up by telling him actors have arrived at the castle to entertain him. But instead of enjoying this he devises a plan. He will use parts of a play closely mirroring the murder of the King. Hamlet expects that Claudius' reaction to the familiar sketch will proclaim his guilt.
ACT3.
In this act Polonius intends to prove that an unsatisfied lust for Ophelia is the cause of Prince Hamlet's madness.
