In the play of Death of a Salesman, by Arthur Miller, Willy was a strong and courageous man with many ups and downs. Willy, even though he was feeling down and low, rested high hopes when his family was around. Even though Willy said" people don't take to me" to Linda, he keeps the rest of the family in high hopes by telling them that he is very popular man and every one likes him. Willy keeps strong by telling his wife Linda his pay for the week was a hundred dollars but really he borrowed the money from a friend.
Willy wants to keep a close relationship with his two sons but he doesn't try hard enough. Biff is upset with Willy because Willy is tramping around with another woman and having and affair. Biff says, " Somebody got in your bathroom! Then Willy tells him" no, it's the next room, there's a party" then the woman walked out. Willy then gave the woman a stocking and regrets it every time he is with his wife. "Where's my stockings Willy, you promised me stockings". After this Biff cant handle this and hates his dad for it, "Don't touch me, you liar! You fake! You phony little fake! You fake".
Willy wants to believe things that don't really happen. He is very declensional and tends to talk to himself from time to time. "A lot of people think he's lost his-balance". Also, Willy is suicidal and tried to kill himself plenty of times. Willy is really into the business world and that's is whole life but Willy was only on commission and the company used him until they couldn't use him no more and fired him. Then the boys, Biff and happy didn't want to be in the business. "Screw the business world" said Biff. They only wanted Willy to be happy and not be sad. Willy really admires physical accomplishments. To of Willy's most major conflicts are Biff and his money.
Willy had many problems in life but he died knowing that Biff loved him and he was helping his sons by dying. Willy cared about everyone even people that didn't exists.
