The sexual behaviors of today's American Teenagers. In the early 1980's, the time I was born, teenage sexuality was not an everyday topic, let alone headline news. Currently teenage sexuality is on a steady increase. This makes you wonder why more teenagers are steadily becoming sexually active. It is believed that peer pressure and just wanting to fit in, are reason for the increase, because in this society it is obvious that what people think of you counts. Those are a few reasons why there is an increase in teenage sexuality but this research paper will touch on three different points. Teenagers increase in sexuality is mainly caused by increased drug and alcohol use, lack of instilled morals by parents, and marketing strategies of today's big businesses.
Admittedly, people are still going to be held accountable for there actions, however while under the influence of drugs and alcohol most people don't know half the things they are doing. Jude Emerson of SJSU believes drinking increases the likely hood of sexual encounters that wouldn't normally take place. "Inhibitions disappear, fantasies get fulfilled and common sense goes out the window." In other words what this man is saying is if you planned on saving yourself for marriage, you more than likely will not think that way when you are drunk. People go to parties looking for drunk women because they know they are more likely to have sex with them, than a woman who is sober. .
Point in case, college parties. Most girls, young(ages 14-17) and old(ages 18 and older), are just head over heals when they find out about a college party. Little did they know that most college men believe that alcohol increases sexual arousal an legitimates non-consensual aggression. College men also believe that women who have had two or more drinks are more interested than non-drinking women in having sex. Researchers, such as those from England's South Bank University in 1999 conclude that women who drink were believed to be more likely to have sex and be more indiscriminate and sexually available when drunk.
