Legalization of Medical Marijuana


Certain states feel that their citizens should not have to suffer if there is a drug that can help alleviate their current medical issues. .
             Unfortunately, patients that continue to suffer due to the lack of medical marijuana are being deprived by national and state government and their stance towards medical marijuana. Also, the fact that the US national government only acknowledges marijuana as a harmful substance, while positive aspects of the drug have been proven to be true, leads one to question many other national policies and how that impact citizens in need. .
             The major problem that affects the outcome of medical marijuana is the lack of knowledge and understanding that surrounds the medical benefits of marijuana. The majority of the citizens of America deem marijuana as an illegal substance which can only be used for getting "high". Many do not know that marijuana has been and currently is being used to help patients with serious illnesses. Furthermore, once researched, the fact that marijuana has broad medical benefits becomes easily apparent. Ultimately, this paper is attempting to prove why marijuana should be legalized for medical purposes.
             Background.
             The current issues that surround the regulations and use of medical marijuana are always changing. The ways in which laws are being interpreted and administered are also under current evaluation on a state by state basis. However, the national stance towards legalizing medical marijuana is still currently firm and reflects negatively upon any use of marijuana. However, due to the democracy of the American government system, laws and regulations are always changing. This establishes a sense of hope and a strong will to reform the current existence of marijuana law. Already, immense support for legalizing marijuana exists and continues to grow each year. (Boire).
             Before attempting to make a decision towards the outcome of this complicated topic, one must first delve deeper into the mental effects of marijuana and why the national government is so strong in its stance against medical marijuana.
