Nat Turner; Hero or Not?

Brutally murdering many people, including women and children, is not any kind of hero to me. Therefore I would not consider Nat Turner a hero. Although Nat only killed one person, he led and inspired men to kill many more than just one person. He also made the situation for slaves much worse because slave owners had to be much tighter when handling their slaves to keep them from revolting.
Nat and his group of rebels were way too ruthless with the way they killed people. They didn't just kill slave owners, they killed the children and women, and even babies of the slave owners. They also forced slaves that didn't want to join the rebellion because they knew it would end up with them being dead to join them. He got many men killed, weather it was the men helping him or the slave owners, and in my opinion, that is not what a hero does.
I feel that what Nat did was very selfish. He made the situation for many slaves much worse because he thought that he could help them. He had no foresight that leading a group of 20-50 men was not going to stop slavery. Many free black men were also punished for doing absolutely nothing. Nat's life wasn't very bad for a slave before the revolt either. He was educated and was not treated poorly. I feel he only tried to have a revolution to benefit himself because he thought he was too bright to be a slave.
I do not believe Nat Turner was a hero. Although what he did was a major accomplishment for slaves and black people, it ended up hurting them in the long run. I was also quite disturbed to learn about how he killed many women and children and the way they killed them, by chopping their heads off.
