The main issue with GMO's is labeling. People want to know what is in their food, that is understandable. They want to think that they are in control of what they and their family eats. Little do they know, there are GMO's in everyday food, snickers and Kellogg's corn flakes for a few. Ethically, this is wrong. The consumer demands certain things from the producers. These things include a quality product for one, and another is to know what they are actually purchasing. GMO's can do a lot of damage. Things we could not imagine. If someone is allergic to nuts, and they eat an orange for example, that has been bread with a strain of peanuts, because it makes the plant less susceptible to disease, that person may become very ill. Thus making everyday common food deadly. GMO's can also destroy life, human life. Looking at the grand scheme of things, farming GMO's is cheaper because you can make it be through science. Because of this, local small farmers may not be able to compete with giants who farm acres of identical plants much easier.
Personally, I could not care less about GMO's. Even if I was allergic to nuts, and I ate a deadly nut orange as I called it, then, oh well. If we can produce food cheaper and more efficiently, then go ahead. Many people do not understand that with an easily accessible supply of food, we can help out developing countries that cannot farm their own food. With cheaper food, it is not that big of a sacrifice to give on our part. Some people believe that GMO's are all deadly and lead to cancer, I think that's outrageous. I don't believe one apple can hold death, and the other a refreshing taste.
