41% of the sample agreed parents would arrange their marriage but would have some say in the matter. A significant 17% felt they would take the initiative in suggesting to their parents who they would prefer as a partner. 23% said that their parents would consider arranging their marriage but the final choice would be left to the individuals. Finally 13% of the principles claimed that the parents would arrange the marriage without consulting the principles. However, 4.3% offered no answer. The majority of the votes derived from this data shows that the students did have a choice of whom they would prefer as life partners.

             The study illustrates that in Pakistan, the traditional marriage system has began to subside. Furthermore, the statistics are far dated so we can assume that the traditional cultural norms and values in contemporary Pakistani society are not always followed. .
             Nevertheless, some Muslim writers believe that forced marriages still exists amongst Pakistani Muslims. In the 'New statesman' an article written by Allibah et al based on females in Yorkshire supposed:.
             "Forced marriages - found among some Muslim Mirpuris in the north of England" 3.
             From here we can identify that she is suggesting that forced marriages is still found amongst female Pakistani Muslims in the north of England hence it can be argued that the practice of marriage without consent even now transpires in Britain.
             This maybe due to Pakistani Muslim families trying to hold on to their tradition. Man Singh states:.
             " The rare individual who"d opposed to the selection of a mate by his/her family would be considered as a threat to the families" established authority". 4.
             Here Man Singh claims it is an embarrassment to the family if the individual rejects their parent's" choice of mate. The idea of families" established authority in Asia trying to keep the family name respected is traditional. As Parveen Shaukat Ali states "this is known as izzat".
