All about Pakistan

The capital of Pakistan is Islamabad, but Karachi is the largest city. Pakistan is situated at the western end of the Indo-Gangetic Plain, which is bounded to the north by the mountain wall of the Great Himalayan mountain ranges and their offshoots. It is situated in the northwestern part of the southern Asian subcontinent and may be divided into six natural regions: the Northern Mountains, the Submontane Plateau, the Indus Plain, the Balochistan Plateau, the Western Bordering Mountains, and the desert areas. The only visible physical feature of Pakistan is the Indus River which carves its way thru the center of the country splitting it in half, and its border with the Arabian Sea to the south, where the Indus River empties itself into. The Northern and Western Highlands cover much of northwestern Pakistan. The worlds second highest mountain peak, K2, is in these mountains. K2 is about 28,250 ft above sea level and is located in Kashmir, controlled by Pakistan. Also in these mountains is Khyber Pass, a famous pass liking Pakistan to Afghanistan. The Punjab and Sind Plains occupy eastern Pakistan. These regions are land growths of soil deposited by rivers. The North Punjab is watered by the Indus river and its tributaries including the Chenab, Jhelum, and Ravi rivers, all located in east central Pakistan. The Baluchistan Plateau is located in southwestern Pakistan and is a dry and rocky plateau with little plant life. The Thar Desert, also located in Southeastern Pakistan extends into northwest India, where irrigation attempts have been made with the Indus River to make the land suitable for farming. Animal life, although seeming non existent is abundant in Pakistan, including deer, boar, bear, crocodile, and waterfowl. In the freshwater and saltwater areas, fish of many varieties are found, and marine life includes herring, mackerel, sharks, and shellfish. .
The terrain of Pakistan is mainly flat, Indus plain in the east, mountainous in the north and northwest, plateaus in the west, and the Arabian Sea to the south.
