Old Testament

Because Abraham knew the faith foundations he chose to believe the promise the Lord gave him ("I will return to you this time next year and your wife Sarah will have a son-, Genesis 18:14), rather than the over whelming facts of their situation.
In Romans, Paul speaks about how Abraham is justified by his faith. Abraham was fully persuaded that God had power to do what He had promised. This is why "it was accredited to him as righteousness- (Rom 4:21-22). Philippians 3: 9, Paul says that "our righteousness comes from God and is by faith-, it does not come by keeping the law.
The Abrahamic covenant that God made to Abraham was a promise to the nation. If we are descendants of Abraham then we are heirs to the promises that God gave to Abraham just like Isaac and Jacob. But believing the promises is not enough. As Christians we must understand that "Faith without action is useless-, (James 2:20) and "Without faith it is impossible to please God-, (Heb 11:6). The Abrahamic covenant can only be fulfilled if we are faithful with what God asks us to do because God is always faithful.
The importance of this theme is clear. Without faith, we cannot believe and therefore we cannot receive the promises of God. Christianity is based on faith. It is by faith we believe that Jesus is God, and that he died on the cross for all mankind; and that he is the only way mankind can get to heaven. The story of Abraham shows us what type of faith we as Christians must have. We must have unwavering faith like Abraham. Faith that will not give up just because the promise does not come to pass during our expected time frame but, believing the promises of God over the facts of life. In Deuteronomy 11:26-28 God said he will bless those who obey and curse those who disobey. Because of Abrahams obedience, he became a great nation.
TRIUMPH TURNS TO TROUBLE THROUGH SIN.
I regard this theme as important because it makes us as Christians aware of the dangers of being comfortable with our environment.
