" What our founders meant by this was simply that congress was prohibited by law from establishing a national religious denomination. They did not intend for everyone to have to choose to be Baptist, Catholic, Lutheran, or any other specific denomination. The illegitimate argument that these anti-Christian liberals have compelled this nations" citizens to accept is treacherous. If one knows anything of our history then it is clear that our forefathers had previously seen entirely too many religious wars plague Europe. Therefore, they wanted to ensure that no specific church or belief had authority over the State. Furthermore, one amendment alone cannot stand to interpret the constitution in its entirety.
The Supreme Court has taken Thomas Jefferson's separation clause and used it to create a new and completely obscure interpretation of the First Amendment. These liberal tyrants have sought to convince the American people of the interpretation that our founding fathers tried to warn us of mixing politics with religion. What I do not understand is if our forefathers came to this land to escape religious persecution, then why do these people not believe that this country was built on Christian beliefs? We originally left England because we wanted a country where there was a religious equality, where no man or woman could be persecuted for believing in and practicing their faith in God. This contradicts their argument for the first amendment. .
Our forefathers never intended the separation of church and state to mean that we are to remove religion, and the mere mention of God, from our government institutions and schools. They simply meant that government could not interfere in our religious rights. At the time these documents were written, there existed states that were trying to coerce everyone to follow one predefined denomination. It was not intended for our governing bodies to be separated from our founding beliefs and principles.
