The nature of having faith in general implies a given uncertainty and a willingness to take the risk to believe in something without proof. To prove God's existence, would eliminate the concept of faith altogether. Faith is an individual human capability that is intimately related to the affirmation of God's existence as well as our own. "Faith is precisely the contradiction between the infinite passion of the individual's inwardness and the objective uncertainty. If I am capable of grasping God objectively, I do not believe, but precisely because I cannot do this, I must believe" (Dembosky, par. 3).
As children, our lives are influenced and our initial "faiths- will begin to develop. Many people with an arbitrary faith are usually influenced to think that way at a very early age. If a child's mind is shaped early enough, he or she will believe anything; and if that child never learns to think for him or herself, he/she will continue to believe these things forever. There are many flaws inherit in the bible which Christian children are taught to believe at an early age. Many of these things may seem to be fairy tales suitable only for the minds of the children. An example of this would be the story of Jonah and the whale. How is it that a man can be inside the belly of an enormous fish for three days and not be digested by its stomach acids? The children are taught that faith is how Jonah survived. Children are influenced by these stories and therefore will go home and practice their beliefs much as Alice from Through the Looking Glass and what Alice Found There does in this fairy tale:.
".Now I'll give you something to believe. I'm just one hundred and one, five months and a day.".
"I can't believe that!" said Alice.
"Can't you?" the Queen said in a pitying tone. "Try again: draw a long breath, and shut your eyes.".
Alice laughed. "There's no use trying," she said: "one can't believe impossible things.
