The Revolutionary War had many key military attributes that ultimately led to the triumph of the United States over England. The war, which lasted from 1775 to 1783, involved the United States, England, and France. England held the upper hand in the beginning of the war due to its strong army, navy, and experienced military planning. The continental army lost many battles due to formation fighting, lack of men and resources. Guerilla fighting quickly changed the situation, slowing the progression of the British and the amount of men in their military. Unconventional fighting and a strong motivation allowed the Americans to win crucial battles and eventually overthrow the crown.
England was a country with a strong economy and a well trained military during the years of the Revolutionary War. They had well equipped soldier and vessels. Unlike England, America had a very small economy, virtually no means to making equipment and just emerging navy. By far England held the upper hand on equipment and technology. The Americans were secretly supplied by the French during the war with guns and ammo. The mal-equipped American military was still able to utilize what resources they had and managed to win strategic battles.
Strictly fighting in formation made a major impact on the outcome of the war. England trained the soldiers in fighting in formation and only obeying commands direct commands from their superior officers. The Continental army did fight in formation at the beginning of the war and costs the Americans many casualties and battle losses. Primary the militia used guerilla fighting and slowly picked off British troops one by one. This tactic worked very well, surprising and slowing the advance of the British army. With no experience with fighting with this tactic the British had a large amount of dead and wounded. .
Some Americans still wanted to be under the crown, but for the most part America as a whole wanted to be free from British rule.
