Pemulwuy

Many of the Eora people began to attack surrounding settlements. Governor Phillip blamed Pemulwuy for this and for the deaths of 17 Englishmen. They tried to pursue Pemulwuy but were never successful, they always returned empty handed. Other ways of revenge had to be used so at this time, in 1795 the English captured a young woman relative of his, raped and tortured her. Pemulwuy took revenge by raging through cities and sparking fear through the English.
During May 1789 an English Convict named after the Eora accepted Caesar. He fought with Pemulwuy against the English but accidentally crack Pemulwuys skull. He fled and surrendered to the English. Around four years later he returned to the Eora but hey couldn't put up with him and he was eventually shot in a musket fight.
Pemulwuy soon increased pressure on the English in 1797 with raids and the destruction of their livestock and crops. The new governor at this time, Governor hunter sent an order for men in the colony to defend their settlement against Pemulwuy. March 1797 bought Pemulwuy to lead the Eora to attack Toongabbie and areas around it to gain supplies and ammunition. Over 100-armed soldiers came upon Pemulwuy but he soon fled due to his geographical knowledge, speed and manoeuvrability. Pemulwuy continued to lead his people to raid the settlements, these people fled to Parramatta and Pemulwuy followed them.
Along the banks of the Parramatta River were the English soldiers, lined and ready for battle. Less then 100metres away stood Pemulwuy and the Eora. Pemulwuy started the battle with the throwing of his spear into the English battle line. The soldiers soon opened fire and the Eora charged ahead. Pemulwuy was the main target and was struck down along with over half of the Eora clan by a number of bullets. Amazingly he was not killed but lay on the ground severely wounded. The English soldiers took him prisoner and looked after him in hospital.
