On Wrist Sprains

People who do these sports are most likely to suffer from wrist sprains. Other sports that have high wrist sprain risks are soccer, volleyball, and basketball.
One major factor in the abundance of wrist sprains in a certain sport is protection. For many sports, wrist protection is available, but it is rarely used. This is a key issue in extreme sports and contact sports such as skateboarding, or soccer. With proper wrist protection, many injuries can be prevented. Players of these sports are very likely to expose themselves to heavy wrist damage unless they are protected.
Symptoms of wrist sprains depend on the degree of the sprain. There are three degrees of injury, mild (grade 1), moderate (grade 2), or severe sprains (grade 3). Mild sprains are when the ligament is stretched, and there may be some micro tears. Moderate sprains occur when the ligament is partially torn, and there may be some slight joint instability. Severe sprains take place when there are complete tears all the way through the ligament, the ligaments are avulsed, and there is significant joint instability.
If there is a mild sprain, then the athlete will experience mild pain, swelling, tenderness, and slight bruising or discoloration. If the sprain is more severe, the symptoms will be too. A severe sprain may result in excruciating or lacking motion, extreme pain, and obvious discoloration or bruising. Other signs of a sprained wrist are warmth, redness, and post-injury discomfort. For severe sprains, the redness, heat, and discomfort is much more obvious.
In order to diagnose a wrist sprain, there are a series of steps also known as HOPS (History, Observation, Palpation, Stress tests). The HOPS strategy is an acronym that helps get as much information out of the victim as needed in order to understand and treat the problem.
The history of the problem is imperative to know what is wrong. The information needed is how the injury happened, when it happened, and weather anything has been done to it.
