It lives and dies with them, and it causes others to do things they normally wouldn't indulge in. It was born as a reaction to the bland, corporate rock of the 1970s. Early exponents of punk include Sex Pistols, The Clash, Ramones and Buzzcocks. Punk's recent revival is attributed to the dominance of sound-alike "alternative" bands. .

Punk started in the 1970's as a thorn in mainstream music's side. The reason punk is a thorn in the side of popular 70's music is because it didn't require great skill, and it wasn't always planned out. There is an argument about where punk music started and why it did. Some people think it was the Sex Pistols in the UK, while others think it was the Ramones in New York. Punks will actually argue for hours over this. Who cares though?! It's music. It just so happens that Americans did it louder, faster, and heavier than any band in the UK could do it. Punk was mainly an underground type of music until about the early nineties when it was brought back into full swing by various bands. To name a few punk influenced bands, such as Nirvana, Green Day, Weezer, and Nofx. With the exception of Nofx, the other bands portrayed a different type of punk. The reason for this is because they were less political than the older bands such as the Sex Pistols. Nofx is one of the most political new punk bands today. There are so many different styles of punk music today though . . . For instance, there is punk, hardcore, emocore (emotional hardcore), emo (emotional music), pop punk (pop/punk music), thrash punk, political punk, and there is even Christian punk bands. .
The values of a punk are a little different then everyday people. Punks believe that government is restricting society, and influence peoples minds too heavily with rules and regulation.
